Age-friendly audit

What is an Age-Friendly community?

With an increasing number of older people in our society, and an acknowledgement that it is beneficial for older adults to stay living independently for as long as possible, there has been a growing interest in trying to design or adapt our living spaces and community areas to be more welcoming and useable for older adults. This includes the physical environment, neighbourhood design, social cohesion, and the accessibility of services and infrastructure.

The concept of Age Friendly Cities was endorsed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the UN in the early 2000’s.

What is an ‘Age-Friendly’ audit?

An age friendly audit uses the city-scale criteria published by the WHO and assesses communities and large-scale urban environments against them. At WellMark we have taken the key elements of various audit tools developed by researchers overseas and adapted them for the NZ retirement village environment.

How is this useful?

An age friendly audit enables village managers, in conjunction with staff and residents, to gauge what improvements may be made to make the village more resident-friendly and rate these improvements in terms of priority.

How much?

A basic audit for a small to medium sized village can cost as little as $1530 + GST and expenses. Larger or more comprehensive audits can be quoted separately. Please contact the team to discuss your requirements.
