Lockdown Resiliency

What do we mean by ‘Lockdown Resiliency’?

The first Level 4 COVID lockdown that was suddenly imposed on New Zealand in early 2020 was unprecedented in the country’s history. As Level 4 slowly morphed into a (slightly) less restrictive Level 3 we realised that this was new territory for our society, not least for our older adult communities. To try and understand the effects Lockdowns may be having on our older adults we partnered with a major retirement village company to survey some of their residents, plus a group of independent community-living older adults.

That work contributed to our development of various programmes and initiatives to help retirement village residents to deal with such things as Lockdowns, but also with some of the issues around loneliness and social isolation that many older adults are experiencing..

What sort of programmes or options are available?

Programmes include both online activities and a selection of resources that are available to those who may not have internet access. For those who require a little assistance to upskill and gain confidence in the digital space we can run simple training forums for your residents (own digital device required).

Does it work?

Our research during the various levels of lockdown during 2020 showed a very positive result for residents who accessed the programmes; they reported feeling safer, more connected, and more able to cope with the enforced isolation.

How much?

Various options are available and can be specifically tailored for your village. These may range from a weekly online chat session to a suite of options on multiple platforms. Contact the team to discuss your requirements.
