Applied research.

What is applied research?

For many years the WellMark team ran an innovative Active Ageing programme for older adults at AUT university in Auckland. AUT is well known for its high-quality sport and exercise science programmes, together with clinical sciences, and specialist programmes in human potential and high-performance sports. Being in this environment exposed us to the latest academic research in many areas, which we then adapted and applied to the programmes we developed for out older adults; we also have been involved in designing and conducting research projects.

We maintain close contacts with our old colleagues at AUT and other organisations.

How is it useful?

Taking high quality, peer-reviewed research and turning it into practical applications in your village assures the provision of safe, tested, validated activities and programmes for your residents.

Examples of this range from activities based upon the principals of mindfulness, to exercise programmes using High Intensity Interval Training – yes, older adults can do such things safely and successfully!

Who are the researchers?

Phillipa Batts and Dave Hoskins, the Directors of WellMark, are innovators in adapting and applying research into programmes and applications for older adults. Where required, we team up with experienced academic researchers in areas such as nutrition, exercise physiology and physiotherapy.
